Ear Wax Removal with Microsuction - aural toilet

It’s normal for your ears to make wax, and most of the time, it comes out on its own. But sometimes, wax can build up and cause problems like muffled hearing, discomfort, or even infection.

Do I Need to Have Ear Wax Removed?

Most people don’t need to do anything about ear wax. But if you use earphones, hearing aids, or cotton buds (Q-Tips), wax can sometimes build up and block your ear canal. This can lead to hearing loss, ringing in your ears (tinnitus), discomfort, or pain.

How Is Ear Wax Removed?

Dr Fragkiadakis uses a gentle technique called microsuction. This involves using a small suction device and a microscope to carefully remove the wax while being able to see inside your ear the whole time. Microsuction is considered the safest and most comfortable way to remove ear wax.

After the wax is removed, Dr Fragkiadakis will check your ear drum and make sure your ear and hearing are healthy.

Before Your Appointment

A few days before your appointment, you can use olive oil drops or hydrogen peroxide drops (available at most pharmacies) to soften the wax. This isn’t always necessary. If you think you have a hole in your ear drum, do not use any drops.

When Should I Seek Help?

  • Have ongoing symptoms like earache, hearing loss, ringing in your ears, or itching.

  • Notice bleeding or discharge from your ear or have had ear surgery before.
